How Much Does It Cost to Landscape on a New Construction?

Backyard landscaping improves the value of your home and increases curb appeal at the same time. Depending on where you live, the lot size, and how you use the area, landscaping takes on many different forms from installing trees, shrubs, and a lawn to creating a patio with a gazebo and walkways. This results in a wide range of costs associated with landscaping, with a national average range of $4,000 to $20,000, depending on the project scope. Most homeowners with a ¼ acre of lawn and landscaping spend around $14,000 on professional designs, new soil, grading, grass seed, front yard shrubbery and trees, a patio, and a walkway.

Give steps a rise of 6 inches or less for comfortable navigation

Once you determine the rise, use this equation to figure out the ideal dimensions for your run: 26 inches – (2 × the rise) = the run. Place landings at every fourth or fifth step if you have more than 10 steps in your stairway. Landings should be at least as deep as the steps are wide.

Achieving a Professional Landscape

Landscaping can make the difference between a drab backyard and a little corner of paradise. But random plantings in your spare time could lead to a patchwork of styles that don’t come together. The key to a professional-looking landscape is careful planning, from choosing a focal point to researching which trees and flowers thrive in your area. Landscape architect Maureen Smith shares each step of the process.
